The ride will start at the Sacramento AMTRAK station and follow the American River approximately 33 miles to Folsom Lake.  We will loop around at Johnny Cash Memorial Bridge and head to the historic town of Folsom for lunch.  We will return to the Sacramento Amtrak Station via the American River Bike Tail.

We plan to use the 8:29 a.m. Amtrak Capitol Corridor train out of Martinez (MTZ) as our transport to Sacramento.  The train arrives in Sacramento at 9:49 a.m. You can buy a round trip ticket online at https://www.amtrak.com/planning-booking/tickets-reservations/purchase-train-tickets.html.  Look for the Green "BOOK NOW" button in the upper right corner of the page.

Tickets cost $17.10 (Value Class) each way for Seniors (65+) and $18 (Value Class) each way for Adults (18 to 64). The station codes are MTZ (for Martinez ) and SAC for the “correct” Sacramento station.  For those wishing to drive, you should plan to arrive at Discovery Park in Sacramento by 10 a.m. Park near Natomas Park Drive (in Discovery Park) so that you can meet the group after it crosses the bridge and turns left off Jibboom Street onto Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (refer to RideWithGPS route).

Whether you take the train or drive you should be in Sacramento no later than 10 a.m.

Riders arriving via Amtrak should meet at 10 a.m. at the area indicated on the RideWithGRP route.

Riders leaving from Discovery Park should expect to see the group at about 10:15 a.m.

    The route is available at:

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29712209

Bring water, food, money and a valid PHOTO ID.

You MUST have a PHOTO ID or you will not be allowed on the train.

IF YOU ARE DRIVING: Discovery Park Vehicle Entrance Fees:  $5
If no one is working at the entrance kiosk, be sure to self-pay your vehicle; look for the self-payment stand. Park rangers strictly enforce self-payment and will ticket vehicles not displaying payment stub. Exact change is recommended.

How to Get To Discovery Park: From I-5 take the Richards Blvd. off-ramp then go west to get to the South entrance of the park, or follow the Garden Highway exit east from I-5 to find the North entrance.  Discovery Park's address is 1600 Garden Hwy, Sacramento, CA 95833.

    3-B ~ 20 miles 6:30 p.m.

WAW (Wednesday After Work) is a Wed. evening training ride series leaving from Les Knott Park in Livermore.

Doug will lead a B paced ride intended to get the heart rate up quickly and keep it there for an hour.  These rides are a good mid-week workout and are generally pretty brisk paced at 17-20 mph.  These are not no drop rides, but routes typically include an out and back or a shortcut option that allows you to catch back on if dropped.  Routes will vary and are usually posted on the calendar 24 hours prior to the ride.

Meet at the park at 655 N. Mines Rd. (corner of N. Mines and Highland Street in Livermore)

Ride Host:   Doug Ondricek  (925) 980-2490
