We will start at the Livermore Trek Store. Trek will be providing access to the store beginning at 8:30am. Water, a restroom, and perhaps a last minute pre-ride tune up, will be available.

VSBC is pleased to have Trek Bicycle as a sponsor of the VSBC’s Mt. Diablo Challenge which will take place on October 2nd. If you haven’t registered to ride the Challenge, or volunteered to support the event, please consider doing so via the VSBC website. Click here -> Mt Diablo Challenge.

Trek Bicycles has an enduring history with Livermore. Livermore Cyclery was started in 1976 by Steve and Melinda Howard. The store became an icon for cyclists and was also known for its commitment to the community. Trek bicycles were a staple at Livermore Cyclery. After a remarkable 44-year tenure Trek Bicycles took over Livermore Cyclery in 2020, and the Dublin and Alamo Stores too.

History nugget for the ride: We will be riding by the Altamont Speedway, on Midway Road, where The Rolling Stones organized (if you can call it “organized”) a concert that was to be the West Coast version of Woodstock. The marquee included The Rolling Stones; the Grateful Dead; Santana; Jefferson Airplane; and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Unlike Woodstock, violence broke out; using the outlaw Hells Angels Motorcycle Club for security was, perhaps, not the wisest choice. One concert goer was stabbed to death in front of Mick Jagger. The Grateful Dead band fled for their safety before they were take to the stage! Today the bucolic setting is used as a testing facility for the development of autonomously driven cars.
