Ride Details

Group A:  We will ride up Mines Rd in Livermore to the Alameda/Santa Clara County Line and then back.   You can reverse the route at any point.

There will be an optional rest stop with beer, tacos, and pizza available for purchase at the end of the ride at Home Grown Hops (3000 Mines Rd, Livermore, CA 94550).

This route goes through a sparsely populated region with long road sections of just one lane.  There is no public water until arriving back in Livermore.  Make sure to leave the start fully hydrated, two-full water bottles on your bicycle, and with some energy snacks.

Cell service is limited the farther back you go on Mines Rd.  Check to make sure that your bicycle is in good condition and that you are prepared for minor mechanical problems.

History Nugget:

Why is Mines Road called Mines Road?  Because there was significant mining activity from ~1900 until 1945.  Magnesite (magnesium carbonate) was the mineral mined.  The metal magnesium and its oxide was sought after for a variety of specialty uses.

Group B:  We will ride Tesla Rd to Cross Rd and then make a gentle descent on Patterson Pass Rd to Greenville Rd.  From Greenville we will go to Old Altamont Rd to Dyer Rd.  From there it is back to Tesla Rd via Greenville Rd.

The pace will be leisurely with frequent regroups.  You can reverse the route to shorten the distance at any point.

There will be an optional rest stop with beer, tacos, and pizza available for purchase at the end of the ride at Home Grown Hops (3000 Mines Rd, Livermore, CA 94550).

History Nugget:

Group B:  Dyer Road moves through the watershed of Brushy Peak Creek.  It is also next to part of the South Bay Aqueduct.  The South Bay Aqueduct transports water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta through over forty miles of pipelines and canals.
