The 40th running of the Mt Diablo Challenge will be on Sunday, Oct.1st. This ride will focus on training for the event with two long taxing climbs on Patterson Pass. You can register for the Mt. Diablo Challenge at:

The weather is predicted to be over 80F near the end of the ride, bring two water bottles and drink before we leave. Livermore Trek should open the store just for us at 7:45AM

All participants must register online on the VSBC website or via the Wild Apricot app. You do not need to be a VSBC member, but we’d appreciate your support and you’ll appreciate the many benefits in being a member.

History Nugget

A large Californian power substation is located at the intersection of the rural roads Patterson Pass and Midway, the “Amp Farm”. It is operated by PG&E and it is a major intersection on the national electrical grid.

Recently PG&E identified the Amp Farm as one of nine sites in California to be equipped with a battery storage system. The overall state battery storage system will be able to provide ~3,300 megawatts of power, enough for over 1 million homes. All of the sites will use lithium-ion batteries with each having a 4-hour discharge duration.
